Aims and objectives

INNOVAge project aims to help older people to live independently for longer in their own homes by increasing their autonomy and by emerging of new ‘technological supply chains’ associated with new developments like independent living and eco-innovation, with a valuable contribution to minimize environmental impact of elderly daily life activities. To achieve this mission, INNOVAge set up the following objectives:

  • Increasing the effectiveness of regional development policies in the field of eco-independent living for the elderly
  • Strengthening connection among actors, win-win cooperation and exchange of good practices at interregional level
  • Creating an European network of clusters on eco-independent living to share experiences and knowledge in this area

Main activities
  • Identification of good practices regarding planning policies in local strategic partnership coordination and cluster development 
  • Knowledge exchange workshops to involve innovation stakeholders in creative dialogue and designing a new policy framework
  • Study visits to direct know a cluster and to capitalise their organisation in other partner countries
  • Interregional training sessions to support local policymakers with increased capacity to adopt a new governance model
  • Launching 14 regional innohubs to develop a closer working relationship between regional authorities and other actors working on eco-innovation for the elderly

A catalogue of good practices has been produced through collection of successful experience of innovation driven cluster, and planning policies in local strategic partnership coordination and cluster development. You can find it on the next link:

This Good Practice Catalogue is based on a SWOT data collection and inter-regional cross analysis. The analysis identified important areas of activity for the next stage of the project such as the training and mentoring scheme and makes recommendations for policy makers, for cluster development and for future actions

Six thematic workshops were organized within INNOVAge Project, on the following themes:

These workshops were open to key innovation stakeholders from the INNOVAge project partners.  They aimed to practically work on specific and common topics and network key innovation stakeholders and end users, involving all stakeholders that represent the quadruple helix and thus introducing a bottom up approach in the policy definition. The focus of these workshops was linked to the weakness and gaps merged from SWOT analysis in the partner regions.

Training sessions were organized to support policymakers to better understand their requirements and facilitating the transfer of good practices. They included recommendations about how to design a cluster on eco-innovation for independent living and smart home. These trainings were dedicated to all project partners, supporting authorities and other regional/ local authorities in charge of eco-innovation and independent living policies, in order to ensure a wide knowledge of the INNOVAge topic and of the quadruple helix governance model (business-private-research sectors) and create synergies and joint collaboration with other Partners of Interreg IVC projects on the same issues. The involvement of policy makers both as partners and as supporting authorities not directly included in the INNOVAge project became members of the Innovation Policy Forum (IPF), with the aim to make aware regional decision makers of innovative solutions and experiences tackled by European regional Partners policymakers, assuring a real and concrete added value to the project.

Innovation Hubs have been strategically located at the INNOVAge partners’ headquarters. InnoHubs are regional offices dedicated to coordinate stakeholders and actions related to eco innovation applied to elderly independent living and smart home. They are regional centres of innovation and knowledge creation, unique spaces for high-tech entrepreneurs, academics, researchers and policymakers/decision-makers to meet and network. Their value-adding business-research and governance support services will contribute to the regional growth. In fact, the Innovation Hub's mission is to promote the socio-economic development and competitiveness of INNOVAge regions through innovation by:

  • Fostering the triple helix model
  • Favouring company’s conversion from traditional sectors to a new line of production related to eco
  • Independent living through specific workshops, training, incentives for mitigating and adapting to economical crisis
  • Enhancing the cooperation between industry, government, academic and research institutions
  • Enhancing synergy between ERDF, EU, national and regional funding opportunities related to eco innovation applied to independent living and smart home
  • Seeking, receiving, analysing, interpreting and disseminating information and knowledge related to EU and other funding opportunities through the INNOVAge web portal
  • Supporting the Regional Government in fully accomplishment with the EU 2020 Strategy and the regional innovation strategy
